How the Hall began

For years, Kenwood had no enshrinement for its outstanding athletes. In 2007, former coaches Lefty Elliott and Carroll Hess discussed creating an Athletics Hall of Fame and presented the idea to Athletic Director Derek Maki (AD 2001–2014). A committee was formed, and the first class was inducted that year.

The classes listed on this site total 144 inductees through the Class of 2022 — a number that has since grown to 177 with the classes of 2023–2026. Each inductee receives a lapel pin and a membership card granting free admission to Kenwood sporting events.

The Neil Rivers Memorial Award

Presented each year to the senior athlete who best exemplifies integrity, dedication, a strong work ethic, and commitment to his school and teams.

The award honors James Neil Rivers Jr., Kenwood Class of 2003 — a three-sport standout in soccer, wrestling, and baseball who died on January 20, 2006, at age 20.

In 2026, Rivers himself was posthumously inducted into the Hall of Fame, with his induction presented as the final award of the October 8, 2026 ceremony.
